Wednesday's 9/8 Second Street Open Mic

I don't have time this week for an extensive post, so we'll just cut to the money shot:  Frank Schmitt ambling along down this little number.

The dancers were pretty awesome too.

See you next time.

Wednesday's 9-1-2010 Open Mic

Lest there be any misunderstanding,

The friendly, professional Open Mic House Band (TM) is happy to serve your musical needs, every Wednesday night at the Second Street Brewery.

There are always picturesque people.

Miguel has been a visitor lately.  Check him out on this number.

With the help of "Brushes Britt" Alexander, this bit popped out, led by Sadhouse Daddie's lead singer Ashleigh.

It's all good, the more, the merrier.  See you next time.

Wednesday's 8-25 Open Mic

There was a whole bunch of good music last week at Second Street.  Visiting musicians included Janos, Ashley, Miguel, Dave, Vinson, Frank, and John.  See if you can pick them out.

There was so much good stuff I had trouble picking what to put up here.  I finally decided on Ash's Dancing In The Streets, because it had such a good feel, what with Frank joining in with his Chet Atkins/Mark Knopfler sound, and everybody just being so mellow.

Please come by for this week's Open Mic!

Wednesday's 8-18 Open Mic

These guys don't miss a thing.

They spot the talent, and throw it up on stage, every Wednesday, guaranteed.  Take last Wednesday, for example.  Check out a few of the musicians who played for us.

Brennan:

Listen to him on this Dylan number.

Or, how about Melissa:

These guys all took a turn.

Jim from Los Alamos.  Another great voice.  I forgot to get his picture this time, but here he is doing Midnight Special.

Then came trouble: Gary.  One out-there guitar player.

He led us down this long, intricate jazz path.

A bunch of nice people came by to enjoy the music.

We'll see you there next time.

Wednesday's 8-11 Open Mic

It was lots of fun last Wednesday.  Second Street was full of people eating, drinking, and listening to the open mic musicians.  The house band opened with a few numbers.  Here's one of them.

We had quite a few musicians take the stage throughout the evening.  Here are a couple of guys from El Paso doing one of their own.  And here's Val doing a Bee Gee's number.

Come on out and see us next Wednesday!

Thursday 7-1 Felix y Los Gatos

Felix y the Gatos have Thursdays at Second Street this month. Last Thursday started out beautifully outside on the patio.

Click a picture to enlarge, click a music link to listen.

Check out the opening number.

Then it began to rain, while they were playing this.

After the number was over we moved all the equipment inside. My recorder took a direct raindrop hit on the left mic and was out of commission for the rest of the night.

But then it stopped raining.

We moved all the equipment back outside again and they played under a rainbow.

Gary Blackchild showed up.

Johnny Broomdust was going to learn a lesson about flowing arroyos later in the evening.

It started to rain again. We moved all the equipment back inside. Again.

Tom told Felix that he'd done enough & did not need to play any more, but Felix set up for the third time that night inside & invited some of his friends up to join him. People were appreciative, as you can see.

Come on out this Thursday -- maybe it won't rain, but it will be fun...
